Please call CAPE at (650) 724-5307 for more information or to register for a program.

NeoSim – Neonatal Resuscitation
NeoSim provides a rich learning environment for the acquisition of the knowledge of newborn pathophysiology, technical skills such as intubation and umbilical vessel catheterization, and behavioral skills including teamwork and effective communication. Prior to attending this program, please review the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation (2005 edition) published by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association. Documentation of participation in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program of the American Academy of Pediatrics is available. Watch NeoSim in action (Windows Media Player or Quicktime).

PediSim – Pediatric Advanced Life Support
PediSim is tailored to meet the needs of pediatric health care professionals working in hospital wards, emergency rooms, clinics and the field. It provides a rich learning environment for the acquisition of the knowledge of pediatric pathophysiology, technical skills such as intubation and vascular access, and behavioral skills including teamwork and effective communication. Prior to attending this program, please review the Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider Manual (2005 edition) published by the American Heart Association. Watch PediSim in action (Windows Media Player or Quicktime).

OBSim – Obstetric Simulation: Difficult Deliveries and Maternal Resuscitation
OBSim is a dynamic, interactive, hands-on program focused on the management of difficult labor conditions such as shoulder dystocia and eclampsia. It also provides opportunities to practice for those rare situations requiring resuscitation of the mother and fetus. Prior to attending this program, please review the Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider Manual (2005 edition) published by the American Heart Association. Watch OBSim in action (Windows Media Player or Quicktime).

SimDR – Multidisciplinary Team Training in the Simulated Delivery Room
This comprehensive team training program is designed to involve all members of the delivery room team including obstetricians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, obstetric nurses, anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, midwives, pediatricians, neonatologists, newborn nurses, neonatal nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists and others. Content knowledge, technical skills and behavioral skills specific to each domain and discipline are practiced in the context of realistic scenarios requiring team members to work together effectively to insure the health of the mother and her newborn.

ECMOSim – Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation
ECMOSim provides physicians, nurses and allied health care professionals the opportunity to practice for those rare but potentially devastating ECMO complications that, if not managed correctly, can lead to death or severe morbidity in their patients. A fully functional ECMO circuit including pump, oxygenator, tubing and mixed venous oxygen saturation monitor is primed with a blood substitute and connected to a patient simulator and patient monitor, allowing the realistic simulation of life-threatening emergencies involving both the circuit and the patient. Watch ECMOSim in action (Windows Media Player or Quicktime).

SimTrans – Transport of the Critically Ill Patient
Transport of critically ill newborns, children and pregnant women is a high-risk, challenging undertaking requiring specially trained teams to diagnose and manage potentially serious problems in their patients with only the resources they are able to carry with them in an ambulance. SimTrans allows these teams to experience and work through these challenges in a safe environment.

CounselSim – High Pressure, High Risk Counseling for Obstetric and Pediatric Health Care Professionals
CounselSim realistically re-creates scenarios for counseling patients and families facing pregnancies complicated by maternal and/or fetal disease, adverse neonatal outcomes, and end-of-life issues. Watch CounselSim in action (Windows Media Player or Quicktime).

Instructor Programs
Instructor programs provide intensive training experiences for pediatric and obstetric health care professionals desiring to establish their own simulation-based programs.
